Actor Robert Wagner Sought As ‘Person Of Interest’ In His Late Wife Natalie Wood’s Death

In a new ’48 Hour Mystery Special’ on CBS to air this Saturday, the show revisits the death of iconic actress Natalie Wood. The actress died in the Pacific Ocean in 1981, off the coast of Catalina Island. The details surrounding Wood’s death has always been met with suspicion and problematic details for the last 37 years. It was well known that Wood was terrified of the water and did not swim. Wood and actor Christopher Walken and her husband Wagner were on board the Wagner’s boat, ‘Splendor’. The captain of the boat Dennis Davem was also on board.

Wood allegedly wandered off the boat on the weekend following Thanksgiving on November 29th, 1981, and went on a dinghy, and fell overboard and drowned. Now investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department who reopened the case in 2011, say they want to talk to Wagner. He’s a person of interest, and knows more about what happened to his wife then he has ever revealed. Investigators allege, Wagner “has changed his story over and over again.” The police also say Wagner’s version of events do not add up.

Police have confirmed that Wagner was the last person to see Natalie alive before she disappeared. Wagner’s version is inconsistent with the captain’s statements, and other witnesses who were near the boat when Wood died. A witness who was in a boat near the ‘Splendor’, said she heard a woman yelling for help, and screaming. Police also assert that Wood had a lot of bruising on her body, that they now say could have happened before she was in the water. Davem is now saying that on the night of Natalie’s death he lied to police because he was threatened. He says” that he heard and saw Wagner and Wood fighting and that is what killed her.”
