Actress Priyanka Chopra Defends Herself After Controversial ‘Quantico’ Episode Airs

Actress Priyanka Chopra finds herself under fire after a controversial episode of her show ‘Quantico’ airs. Indian fans around the world have been slamming Priyanka online and in the press. Her character ‘Alex Parish’ on the show is anti terrorist agent, who in the episode plots and plans a nuclear attack in New York that would from Pakistan. The intense backlash has forced the actress to release a statement. She said, “I’m extremely saddened that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of ‘Quantico’, that was not my intention. I sincerely apologize. I’m a proud Indian and that will never change.”

The network ABC which produces the show and USA where the show airs, said in a statement that Priyanka has been unfairly targeted. The show has already been canceled by ABC and is currently airing it’s last season on USA network. Chopra is the first Indian actress to hold a lead in an American TV show. She premiered on the show in 2015, Forbes estimates that Chopra is currently the highest paid actress in the world. She is still a major star with ‘Bollywood’, which is the Indian movie industry.

ABC also said, that they were apologizing to any fans or viewers that were offended by the recent ‘The Blood of Romeo’ episode. The executives at ABC said the intention of the show was not to offend anyone. The statement read in part, “The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is directed at Priyanka Chopra, who did not create the show, nor does she write or direct it.” It didn’t stop detractors from spewing against the actress. One said, “But still can’t figure out how come Priyanka Chopra would ditch her own country and Indian people for mere breadcrumbs in the West.” Chopra has recently been linked romantically with American musician Nick Jonas.
