Alice Johnson Publicly Thanks Kim Kardashian For Her Release From Prison

Freed Grandmother Alice Johnson did her first interview since being released from prison on Thursday. Reality star Kim Kardashian used her celebrity to have a meeting with President Donald Trump last week. The mother of three went to the White House with high profile attorney Shawn Holley to plead for a pardon for the the 62 year old great grandmother. The president issued a pardon for Johnson on Wednesday, saying Johnson had paid her debt to society by spending 22 years in a federal prison for a low level drug charge which was her first offense.

When the pardon was issued, Kardashian tweeted, “best news ever.” Johnson appeared on ‘Good Morning America’ on Thursday with her daughter by her side. She said, ‘Kim was the one that called her and told her that she has been pardoned by the president. Johnson said, “When Kim told me I was being released, I started jumping and screaming and crying, and everyone else was crying too. It was wonderful. I’m so glad that she was the one that delivered the news to me. It was a perfect ending.”

Johnson added that she felt a sudden ‘heart connection’ with Kim after she reached out to her, after finding out about Johnson’s story on social media. Johnson was reunited with her family that included, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren when she ran from the prison as the door gates opened in Aliceville, Alabama, where she served her sentence. Johnson also thanked President Trump and reminded him that there are many people serving long prison terms for low level drug offenses, ‘that need a second chance too, we can’t forget them.’ Trump also tweeted to Johnson, “Good luck to Alice Johnson, have a wonderful life.” Johnson said she’s not finished yet, indicating that she may pursue working for inmates, that have been forgotten, and need their cases looked at again.’
