Anthony Bourdain Of CNN’s ‘Parts Unknown’ Commits Suicide While On Location In France

Celebrity chef and writer Anthony Bourdain is dead at 61, CNN confirmed his death. The popular CNN personality was in the middle of filming his show for season 11. Bourdain was on location in Strasbourg, France when his body was found by French chef Eric Ripert. CNN said in a statement, “It is with extraordinary sadness that we confirm the death of our friend and colleague Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and remarkable stories of the world made him a unique story teller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him every day.”

Bourdain was married to his high school sweetheart Nancy Putkroski for twenty years, with the marriage ending in 2005. His second wife, Ottavia Busia was the mother of his only child Ariane Bourdain now 11. The couple divorced in 2016, Bourdain said that his constant travel was very hard on the relationship. He started dating Italian actress Asia Argento in 2017, who he met when she appeared on the Rome edition of his show. He publicly supported her when she accused Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault last year.

The French police confirmed that the cause of death of Bourdain was a suicide, a source said he was found hanging in his hotel room. When the celebrated chef failed to turn up for a morning film shoot his close friend Chef Eric Ripert went to his hotel room to look for him. The two chefs were both working on the episode for CNN. Bourdain had a long career which started when he graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in 1978. He worked various jobs in the resultant industry including, dish washer and prep cook before rising to Executive Chef for Manhattan’s Brasserie Les Halle. Bourdain died two days after the suicide of designer Kate Spade.
