Season 20 ‘Bachelor’ Ben Higgins has split from his finance Lauren Bushnell. The couple became engaged at the end of the season in March 2016. Higgins,29, a software salesman from Denver, and Bushnell.27, a flight attendant from Portland, Oregon have called off their engagement, and are going their separate ways. Three months ago in February Bushnell was all over social media wishing Higgins a happy 29th birthday. Saying “Happy Birthday babe, I’m so thankful for this life we have together.” Bushnell moved from Portland to Denver to live with Higgins in his Denver loft a few months after becoming engaged.
There have been break up rumors swirling around the couple for several months. Higgins strenuously denied the rumors, saying “it’s fake news” that we now have to live with, but none the less the rumors are not true. Higgins said the couple was building their relationship and making it stronger every day. Today the ex couple said in a joint statement “It is with heavy hearts we announce our decision to go our separate ways. We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another.”
There was some controversy with Higgins during the season. He told both Bushnell and the season runner up Jo Jo Fletcher that he loved them, which is a basic no no on the show. The Bachelor is not supposed to profess his love for any contestant during the show, only at the end during the final rose ceremony. Some fans suggested the couple went ahead and got engaged just to enjoy the perks of being a TV couple can bring. The couple were given their own spin off show that aired in 2016 on ‘Freeform ‘Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After?”, it lasted for one half season with 8 episodes.
