Caitlyn Jenner, 67, the former Gold Medal Olympic decathlon champion Bruce Jenner is back in the news. Jenner who came out as a transgender woman back in April of 2015 generated world wide headlines for it’s initial shock value. Jenner had been in the public eye since the 1976 Montreal Olympic games, when he was crowned the overall best male athlete in the world, with his gold medal decathlon win. After the games Jenner was the first athlete to be able to successfully monetize an Olympic win. He was the first prominent athlete to appear on a box of Wheaties cereal.
Jenner divorced and married 3 times, his last to Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the famous Kardashian reality TV clan. Jenner was featured prominently on the E reality show ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’. It was Jenner’s fame that catapulted the show to instant stardom. The show has been on the air since 2007, with no signs of ending any time soon. But in April of 2015 Jenner set tongues a wagging internationally when she famously told ABC’s Diane Sawyer, “I am a woman”.
At first Jenner only received positive attention from the transgender community, and society in general. She was thought of as a real symbol of freedom and courage and thought to be a role model by some. The E Channel offered her a spin off show called ‘I Am Cait’. The show ran for two seasons on E, before facing dwindling ratings and being canceled after the 2016 season. Just when we thought we may have heard the last from Jenner, she announced a new make up line with MAC, it will feature lipstick that sells for about $17.00. Time will tell if her initial fan base will stay loyal and buy her products, or if he once powerful flame has permanently been dimmed.
