‘Cake Boss’ Star Mary Valastro Mother Of Buddy Valastro Dies Of ALS At 69

Buddy Valastro star of TLC’s ‘Cake Boss’ announced the sad news today, that his beloved mother Mary died of ALS today in New Jersey at 69. The popular show is in it’s 8th season. Mary was featured prominently on the show every season as the matriarch of the Valastro clan. Mary along with Buddy’s sisters and brother in laws were seen every season working in the family run ‘Carlo’s Bakery, founded by Carlo Guataferro in 1910. Buddy’s father Bartolo Valastro bought the bakery in 1964, and the Valastro family has been running it ever since. The bakery now has seven New Jersey locations, with lines around the block at times, due to the popularity of the TLC show.

The family revealed Mary’s diagnosis on season 5 of the show in 2012. Buddy whose father died in 1994 of lung cancer, after a life long cigarette habit, said at the time, “you come first, I will stop the world to come to you.” Buddy said today, “I hope she’s dancing with dad to “I will survive.” Buddy has attributed much of his success as a celebrity chef to the hard work ethics instilled on him by last father. Valastro also said today, “this is a difficult time for all of us and I do ask your patience and respect while we let this all sink in.”

The celebrity chef and famed baker also said “It is with an extremely heavy heart that I must share the news of mother’s passing. She left for heaven this morning surrounded by the family.” Mary remarried about 4 years ago to Sergio Picinich who survived his wife. She was born in Publia, Italy, and immigrated to the US when she was a child. There is a note on all store websites, saying the stores would be closed on Tuesday and resume business on Wednesday. The funeral is going to be held on Tuesday in Hoboken, NJ.
