Charo’s Husband Died Of Self Inflicted Gun Shot Wound

Sad news in Hollywood today, the husband of 70’s and 80’s sex siren Charo, has taken his life. Police were called to Charo’s Beverly Hills mansion on Monday night. First responders tried desperately to save Kjell Rasten’s life. He was transported to Cedars Sinai Hospital where he died from his injury. An autopsy completed late Tuesday indicated that Rasten died after he shot himself in his head. The couple had been married for 41 years. Charo said that her husband had been battling depression for several years. The accomplished Spanish Flamenco guitarist, also revealed that Rasten had a painful skin disease.

Charo said her husband, a music manager, also had to take large amounts of medicine to combat his illness. She believes ‘it all became too much for him,’ Rasten was 78. Charo’s exact age has long been a matter of dispute, it’s estimated to be between 65 and 75. Charo said in a statement, “I’m heartbroken but I understand my husband’s need to end his suffering.” The singer was in the home when Rasten took his life. The couple had one child a son, actor Shel Raston, Charo’s first husband was Cuban musician and band leader Xavier Cugat, she has credited him with launching her career.

Charo because famous for the way she greeted people, with ‘Cuchi-Cuchi’. She was a staple on talk shows during the 70’s and 80’s appearing dozens of times on the ‘Tonight Show’ with Johnny Carson. Recently Larry King asked Charo where she got the ‘Cuchi-Cuchi.’ She said it was nick name for a dog she had as a child in Spain. When she came to the American she couldn’t speak English so she would say ‘Cuchi-Cuchi’ all the time and it took on a life of it’s own. Friends and fans alike have been sending their well wishes towards the entertainer.
