Funny man and runner up of the first season of ‘Last Comic Standing’ died on Friday at the age of 45. May who was extremely overweight, had been having medical issues the last few months his rep said today. He had been battling a bad case of pneumonia in the last month, he canceled several appearances in an effort to recover. According to his manager Judi Marmel May’s body was found in a private residence in Las Vegas. May rose to fame shortly after ‘Las Comic Standing’ aired in 2003, by appearing on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jay Leno.
He was awarded ‘Casino Comedian of the Year’ at the Gaming Expo two days before his death. May had four separate comedy specials for ‘Comedy Central’, which were all highly successful. He also had two of his own produced comedy specials for ‘Netflix’, ‘Imperfectly yours’ in 2013 and ‘Unruly’ in 2015. May married fellow comedienne Lahna Turner in July of 2005. The marriage was rocky from the beginning May said. Turner filed for divorce in October of 2015 after ten years of marriage.
The two battled it out in court over custody issues concerning their two young children, daughter April,10 and eight year old son August. May was from Tennessee and when he was just a 17 year old high school senior he opened for the late comic Sam Kinison. May also appeared in the 2002 comedy ‘For Da Love of Money.’ He said “I hate the billboards, they make me look fat, but it’s better to be on the boards than not.” May had a health scare in 2011 when a bad case of walking pneumonia sent him to the ER in Tampa, Florida. He was told he had blood clots as well. He said at the time it was a ‘wake up call’.
