The country is still recovering from the mass shooting at ‘Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, NV on Sunday October 1. The horrific events took the lives of at least 59 concert goers, and have injured over 500 others, some with life threatening injuries. The headlining act, country powerhouse Jason Aldean, 40, was into his third song of the night when shots rang out from the 32nd floor of the adjoining Mandalay Bay Hotel, which overlooked the concert venue. The 22 thousand people in attendance starting running in all different directions.
Aldean ran from the stage to safety, he and his pregnant wife Brittney Kerr were driven away from the scene in a police car. The country singer released a statement, “As a result of what happened this week in Las Vegas, we have decided to cancel this upcoming weekend’s shows.” The shows in question are in Southern California, Los Angeles, San Diego and Anaheim. Aldean continued “ I feel like out of respect for the victims, their families and our fans, it is the right thing to do. It has been an emotional time for everyone involved this week. So we plan to take some time to mourn the ones we have lost and be close with our family and friends.”
The gunman Stephen Paddock,64, of Mesquite, Nevada, took his own life seconds before the S.W.A.T team burst into his hotel room. Investigators found more than 40 guns and rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition in Paddocks hotel suite. He broke out two windows with a tool similar to a hammer, so he could shoot concert goers from different locations. Aldean said he plans to continue with his tour next weekend in Oklahoma. He thanked his fans, friends and family for their prayers and support. He said,”Without the support, I could not have made it through the last couple of days.”
