Cuba Gooding Sr. Father Of Oscar Winner Cuba Gooding Jr. Found Dead At 72 Possible Drug Overdose

Cuba Gooding Sr, father of Academy Award winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. has died today. He was found slumped over his luxury silver Jaguar car. He was found on Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills, Ca, police believe it was a possible drug overdose, Gooding was 72. Famous in his own right as lead singer for the group ‘The Main Ingredient’, had a huge hit song in the 70’s ‘Everybody Plays The Fool.’ Paramedics who responded to the scene tried for over an hour to resuscitate  him, but were unsuccessful, he was declared dead a short time later at a hospital.

Police and a CSI team who examined the car, found several empty drug canisters and do believe Gooding died of a drug overdose, an autopsy is pending. Gooding was divorced from Cuba Gooding Jr’s mother Shirley Gooding at the time of his death. The couple had four children, Cuba, a son Omar Gooding also an actor, and another son musician Tommy Gooding and daughter April Gooding. After leaving the ‘Main Ingredient’ Cuba had a moderately successful solo career on Motown Records.

Gooding’s son Cuba Gooding Jr. has had a very successful actor career with an Academy Award for best supporting actor in ‘Jerry Maguire’ with Tom Cruise in 1996. He was also nominated for an Emmy award for his stellar performance as O.J. Simpson in the extremely popular TV crime series ‘The People Vs. O.J. Simpson’ in 2016. He was given a star on the ‘Hollywood Walk Of Fame’ in 2002. Cuba Gooding Sr. found himself in some trouble in 2014 when he didn’t show up for a charity event at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. He was accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the charity, and was sued in court, the court case was still pending at the time of Gooding’s death.
