Singer Demi Lovato was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital on Tuesday after suffering a drug overdose. The singer has been plagued with drug addiction, eating disorders and mental health issues for most of her adult life. In the song’ Sober’ released in June she sang about falling off the wagon. Her mother and other extended family members arrived from Texas to be by the singer’s side. The fire department responded to her Hollywood Hills home to find the singer unconsciousness. She was administered the drug Narcan, to counter act the symptoms of a drug overdose.
Specific details of the Tuesday event are sketchy, it is not known who called 911, TMZ the first outlet to report on the overdose, reported the singer overdosed on heroin. Sources connected to the singer said it was not heroin. Narcan is used to resuscitate those who OD on opiates, some are speculating that if it wasn’t heroin, it could have been pain pills. The singer has been in and out of treatment since 2010. Some associates of the singer are saying she was never completely sober from ‘all of her demons’ One said “shes been in such a dark place lately.” They went on to explain, “her pain is long and wide, and seems as though it’s never ending.”
Lovato has a sober living team that surrounded the singer daily, they monitored her heath and sobriety. But only days before the overdose Lovato abruptly fired the team. Friends speaking out are saying that Lovato’s health had been in a downward direction for a while. A friend said, ‘When Demi is sober she completely avoids the clubs, but lately she has been a regular fixtures at the clubs.’ Lovato has been receiving well wishes and prayers from celebrities and fans around the world. Some upcoming gigs for the singer have been canceled, including a concert on Thursday at Atlantic City, NJ.
