Rap icon Dr. Dre had a very highly publicized incident in 1991 when he attacked TV host Dee Barnes. Dre was at the time a member of the very controversial rap group ‘N.W.A.’ Dre and music producer Jimmy lovine are the subjects of the new HBO series ‘The Defiant Ones.’ In part two of the series Dr. Dre addressed the incident. At the time of the incident, Dre brushed it off as “It’s no big thing I just threw her through a door.”
It occurred because Barnes wrote a piece about N.W.A. for ‘Rolling Stone Magazine’, which painted the group in a very negative light. When Dre saw Barnes at an industry event he attacked her by slamming her against a wall, as his bodyguard held onlookers away. Dre now says he’s very sorry he attacked Barnes, and adds there is no excuse for every laying a hand on a woman. Dre whose real name is Andre Young, is recalling the incident with a huge amount of regret. Dre says he was drinking a lot during that period of time and he was out of his mind.
He said he was really crazy. Although this well documented incident with Barnes was left out of the hit 2015 film ‘Straight Outta Compton’ it happened as well as other violent acts against women Dre has been accused of. Dre says he’s sorry it happened and he apologized for it and he’s paid a steep price for it. Barnes brought a civil suit against Dre for 22.7 million dollars, it was settled out of court. He was given two years of probation and had to perform 240 hours of community service. Dre said it’s a dark cloud that is always with him,” it’s a major blemish on who I am as a man.”
