Johnson first started to discuss the delicate issue of his mother’s suicide attempt in February. He said working on the HBO show ‘Ballers’, brought the issue up again for him, because the show deals with the subject. He recalled the actual incident, he said, “My mom tried to check out when I was 15. She got outta the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic. Big rigs and cars were swerving trying not to hit her. I grabbed her and pulled her back onto the gravel shoulder of the road.” Johnson said his mother has no clear recollection of the incident, and he believes it’s for the better.
