Hollywood Reacts To Guilty Verdict In Bill Cosby Case

A jury in the Bill Cosby sexual assault case came back with a guilty verdict to three aggregated counts of indecent sexual assault. Each count carries a possible ten year prison sentence. Cosby will be 81 next month, any type of prison term could mean that Cosby will die in prison. Cosby who was free on a million dollar bond was ordered to remain under house arrest until sentencing, which could take place from one to three months. Cosby had to turn over his passport to the court, and the judge ordered him to stay put in his Pennsylvania home.

The disgraced comedienne lowered his head down almost under the defense table as the verdict was read. His wife of almost 60 years Camille Cosby was not in the courtroom as the verdict was read. Hollywood has been reacting steadily to the shocking verdict in the second trial, the first one ending in a hung jury. Actress and director Elizabeth Banks said, “Finally some justice for the Bill Cosby victims, May the find a little peace today.” Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi said, “Thinking of all the women he traumatized for the last 50 years.”

Padma went on to explain, “as a survivor myself, I know that the pain never fully goes away. But I hope that his victims finally feel some semblance of peace.” The charges against Cosby were brought forward by Andrea Constand who was an employee of Temple University. Constand accused Cosby of drugging and sexually molesting her in 2004. Although hundreds of women have accused Cosby of the same thing, the Constand allegation was the only one that did not have the statue of limitations expire. This second trial differed from the first one, in that other accusers were able to testify about their experiences with Cosby. Five other women took the stand and told similar tales about Cosby drugging them, and committing sexual battery.
