Jerry Van Dyke Star Of ‘Coach’ Dies At 86

Actor Jerry Dyke of the TV show ‘Coach’ has died, he was 86 years old. Van Dyke was the younger brother of iconic actor Dick Van Dyke, who is now 92 and lives in Malibu. Jerry died on his ranch in Arkansans, his wife Shirley was by his side. Shirley told ‘TMZ’ that she and her husband were involved in a car accident in 2015, and Jerry never really recovered from the accident, his health started to deteriorate according to his wife. The actor was very close to his older brother Dick throughout their lives. Jerry frequently appeared on his brother’s hit show, ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show.’

Jerry’s wife Shirley Jones, said the comedian died of heart failure on the couple’s Hot Springs, AK ranch. Van Dyke won 4 Emmy nominations for his role as an assistant coach on the hit show. “ In 2015 Dick and Jerry appeared on the ABC tv show ‘The Middle’, playing squabbling brothers. Jerry said he always looked up to his brother. Dick at the time told The Los Angeles Times’ he just saw his younger brother’s stand up actor for the first time.

The older Van Dyke said “I didn’t realize how good Jerry is, the thing about him is he’s funny from the inside out.” Although Jerry had a very steady career in the entertainment business, he never achieved the type of success his older brother did. Jerry never harbored any resentment towards Dick for his success. Jerry’s wife Shirley said, “They were extremely close and very supportive of each other always.” A close friend of both Jerry and Dick, was actress Rose Marie, who co-starred with Dick, on the “Dick Van Dyke Show’, died less than two weeks ago on December 28, 2017. Jerry had three children, daughters, Nancee and Jerri Lynn and a son Ronald Van Dyke.
