The mega MTV hit of 2009 ‘Jersey Shore’ has been brought back with ‘Jersey Shore Family Vacation’. The new version of the show has brought in impressive ratings, and has just been renewed for a second season. Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino was battling a deadly prescription pain pill addiction when the show first wrapped in 2012. The reality star now 35, is 28 months sober, and according to him ‘has a new lease on life.’ Of his life now he says, “I worked so hard to turn my life around and be the best person I can be. I did it, and good things came around. I’m so excited and so proud of this season.”
The former tanning salon owner said that after the show wrapped in 2012, he didn’t talk to his former ‘Jersey Shore’ cast mates for a couple of years. He said, “I had to fight my own demons and fix myself before I could even try to have any other relationships. They teach you that in recovery, but we have been having group chats for over a year, and we speak every day.” Sorrentino has been using his public platform to do outreach work for other addicts at a rehab facility in New Jersey.
The New York native says, “I’ve done everything I can to better myself. I really feel that I’m in the best situation possible.” The reality TV personality has been trying very hard to remain positive as he faces a sentence hearing on April 25th. Sorrentino along with his brother Frank plead guilty to income tax evasion in January. The brothers are facing up to a five year prison sentence in a federal penitentiary. He had strict limitations while he is out on bail, like no drinking alcohol. Sorrentino says, the sentencing will bring him closure, and ‘he hopes to move forward with his life.’
