Jon Voight Turns 80 & Reconnects With Daughter Angelina Jolie

Actor Jon Voight and his actress daughter Angelina Jolie have not always had a healthy relationship. There have been years of estrangement for the two, the two are now repairing their relationship. The two time Oscar winner turned 80 on Saturday and his daughter Jolie was by the actor’s side as he blew out his candles. As Jolie deals with the end of her third marriage to Brad Pitt, friends are saying the actress has been leaning on her father. Jolie was just two years old when Voight and Jolie’s mother French actress Marceline Bertrand divorced.

Jolie has said publicly that her father was always unfaithful to her mother, and it was very painful for the entire family. Jolie said that her mother raised her and her brother James as a single mother. Bertrtand died in 2007 at 57 after a long battle with cancer. Jolie talked about her mother to ‘Elle’ last year. The Oscar winner said, “I know how much she would have contributed to the lives of my kids. I am very sad that they will miss out on that. I would give anything for her to be with me at this time. I’ve needed her. I talk to her often in my mind and try to think of what she might say and how she would guide me.

A few months after Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, Voight said, “she’s ok, she’s holding on, I hope I can see my grand-kids.” At that time the father daughter relationship was still rocky, but slowly over the last two years, the two have made strides in fixing their relationship. The two along with four of Jolie’s children were spotted in a Beverly Hills restaurant having dinner in 2017. An onlooker said, ‘they looked like any normal family.’ The mother of six said, ‘I’m happy he is back in my life and for the kids, we’ve been taking it very slow.”
