After being employed at ‘NBC’ for twenty years, Matt Lauer was terminated from the network. Lauer joins a growing list of men who have had women lodge sexual harassment claims against them. The longtime host of ‘The Today Show’ was terminated from his post as his co workers fought back tears to make the announcement. Savannah Guthrie said Lauer was ‘her friend and partner for many years’, and she is trying to process this news. The co-anchor of the show, said the news was brand new, and ‘for the moment all we can say is that we are heartbroken.’
Gurthrie also said that she feels for the co-worker who had the courage to come forward and tell her story. Several women have said that Lauer made lewd and unwanted sexual comments and sent inappropriate texts. NBC fired Lauer a mere 36 hours after a female subordinate came forward with her attorney to make her allegation in person at the Midtown Manhattan offices of ‘NBC’. According to sources, Lauer was told he was fired only a few hours before it was announced on the ‘Today Show’.
The show is NBC’s most profitable show, earning the network more than 500 million dollars per year. After Lauer’s firing was announced at least two more women have come forward directly to ‘NBC’. One woman who talked to the ‘New York Times’ said that in 2002 Lauer summoned her to his office and demanded sex from her. She claims they had sex, and she didn’t report the incident at the time because she was scared she would lose her job and she was ashamed. Lauer has been married to Dutch model Annette Rouge since 1998. She has filed for divorce twice in the last 19 years, and sources have reported that the couple lead separate lives. They have three children together and live in Long Island,NY.
