Numerous reports claimed disgraced former ‘Today Show’ host Matt Lauer would grab a huge payout from NBC. Not so fast says NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack, who fired Lauer on November 28th. Lauer had a contract with the network that would have lasted well beyond 2019, worth over 30 millions dollars. Lauer’s lawyers were angling for a huge payout equaling at least the same amount of the contract. However a senior executive for NBC told CNN today that since Lauer was fired for sexual misconduct, that’s not the case anymore.
The NBC executive said that because of the behavior by Lauer violates his agreed terms of his contract, he’s not entitled to any buy out money. He will be paid up until his last day of employment which was Tuesday November 28th. The NBC executive said that there is no doubt that Lauer’s lawyers will try to get him a huge settlement amount. However NBC will not agree to that because of the egregious behavior by the former host that led to his demise at the network. The firing was due to at least one female colleague coming forward with claims that Lauer engaged in sexual harassment on a regular basis.
Since the first woman came forward a week ago, several others have made claims against Lauer. Other current NBC employees have said that Lauer’s lewd behavior toward female employees at NBC was a known fact for several years. The father of three young children broke his silence a day after being fired. He said” There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt I am truly sorry.” He said he realized the pain he caused at his former workplace and at home.
