On the Monday morning broadcast of Megyn Kelly’s show on NBC, the host addressed a situation concerning iconic Jane Fonda. Kelly said ‘thus far she has taken the high road where Fonda is concerned. She said that in spite of Fonda constantly talking about her appearance on Kelly’s show in September of 2017, she has held her peace and not said anything about Fonda. During that appearance, Kelly asked Fonda about her plastic surgery procedures. Fonda said “Do we really want to talk about this now.” The eighty year old actress appeared on Kelly’s show with her co-star actor Robert Redford.
Fonda has been asked about the appearance since last fall, and she has repeatedly commented that she didn’t appreciate the comment. On Monday Kelly decided to use her show as a platform to respond to Fonda’s comments. Kelly said she does not regret asking Fonda the controversial question. She also added that Fonda very publicly discussed getting plastic surgery for years prior to appearing on her show. Kelly said that the film Fonda was promoting with Redford, “Our Souls At Night” is about aging.
Kelly felt it was a natural question to ask in lieu of the film plot and Fonda publicly talking about her own plastic surgery. Kelly said Fonda has always made a big deal about ‘giving a cultural face to older women.’ Kelly said “Well the truth is, most older women look nothing like Fonda, who is now 80.” If Fonda really wants to have an honest discussion about older women’s cultural face, than her plastic surgery is tough to ignore.” The backlash started swift and severe, with even actress Debra Messing weighing in on the back and forth. Messing a well known feminist, said “This is disgusting, shameful.”
Angry fans, suggested to NBC that Megyn should be fired for ‘the mean spirited Fonda comments.’
