Tiny actor Verne Troyer has died, he was 49 years old. He is best known for his roles in the Austin Powers movies, he was also one of the smallest men in the world. Troyer had been battling alcoholism for several years. According to Troyer’s family, he had been in and out of rehab ‘several times.’ The actor was born with a genetic disorder, achondroplasia dwarfism. Troyer grew up on a farm in Michigan. He had two siblings who were average size, Troyer said he was treated the same as his siblings.
Troyer’s family were Amish, but they left the church when Troyer was a young child. The ‘Austin Powers’ star actor Mike Myers paid tribute to his friend and co-star. Myers said, “Verne was consummate professional and a beacon of positivity , for those of us that had the honor of working with him. It is a sad day, but I hope he’s in a better place. He will be greatly missed.” Troyer got his big break in 1999 in the film ‘Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me’, Troyer portrayed ‘Mini-Me whis was a smaller version of Myer’s character, Dr. Evil.
In 2002 he appeared again as Mini-Me in the sequel ‘Austin Powers in Goldmember.’ Troyer lived in the LA suburb North Hollywood. He had a specialized car, and was able to live very independently. He said living in Hollywood, “wears on you sometimes, because everyone seems to want something. In his last interview in January he said that he was very naive about the ways of Hollywood. He talked about all the chores he had to do as a child on the farm in Michigan. He was most proud of his MTV award, for best on screen duo. In his last interview he said, “I hope I live a very long life.” Troyer said wherever he traveled to, he heard ‘Mini-Me’ even in Japan.
