No explanation has been given for model Gigi Hadid’s cancellation of an appearance at the 2017 ‘Victoria Secret’ fashion show in China. The model made her debut for ‘Victoria Secret’ at their 2015 show in New York City. Hadid,22, announced on Thursday that she would not walk down the runway in Shanghi, China. On Twitter, Hadid said “I’m so bummed I won’t be able to make it to China this year. Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit.” She announced over the summer that she was going to walk in the show.
Her cancellation has left many puzzled as to what the true reason is for Hadid not walking in the show. Gigi’s 21 year old sister, model Bella Hadid will be walking the runway at the show in China. Some of the other models expected to participate in the show are, Lais Ribeiro, Jasmine Tookes, Lily Aldridge and Sara Sampaio. Bella said “I’m so excited, can’t wait to see you Shanghi.” The show will take place on Tuesday, and many of the models have already left for China.
There has been some speculation that the reason Hadid canceled is due to her posting insensitive pictures on social media where she appears to have been mocking Asian features. A ‘Victoria Secret’ representative would not comment on the Gigi cancellation when asked for a comment. There have been other issues with some of the crew for the Victoria show, being denied Visas to work in China. It leaves ‘Victoria Secret’ with a skeleton crew working on the show. Hadid has been dating British singer Zayn Malik since 2015, she appeared in his music video for ‘Pillowtalk’. They also appeared together on the cover of ‘Vogue’ in August of 2017.
