NBC News Anchor Mark Halperin Fired Over Sexual Harassment Accusations

Mark Halperin,52, a senior political analyst for ‘MSNBC’ and ‘Bloomberg Television’ was fired today after a series of sexual harassment allegations surfaced. NBC released a statement to CNN which read in part,”We find the story and the allegations very troubling. Mark Halperin is leaving his role as a contributor until the questions about his past conduct are fully understood.” A few hours before the announcement of the newsman’s firing, five women spoke to CNN, and said that Halperin sexually harassed them while he was a political director at ‘ABC’ News.

All the women wanted to be anonymous, all of the women offered damning evidence to support their claims against Halperin. The accusations against the former analyst are similar, Halperin they assert, approached the women, and touched their bodies without their consent. A few women also claim that Halperin propositioned them for sex. The women told CNN that the did not come forward with their allegations at the time they happened for fear of retribution. Halperin has steadfastly denied any and all allegations. Halperin released a statement to CNN, in he says” During this period, I did pursue relationships with women that I worked with.”

Halperin explained further,” Some of the women I pursued were junior to me. I now understand from these accounts that my behavior was inappropriate and caused others pain. For that, I am deeply sorry and I apologize. Under the circumstances, I am going to take a step back from my day to day work while I properly deal with this situation.” Halperin is the author of ‘Game Change’ and worked at ABC news from 1988 to 2007. He started at NBC in 2008, and is also a co-host of the highly successful docu-drama on ‘Showtime’ called ‘the Circus’ which focused on the 2016 presidential election. Showtime.
