New Details Emerge About The Death Of Fashion Designer Kate Spade

The death of fashion designer Kate Spade has left the fashion world and Hollywood stunned. Spade,55, was found hanging by a red scarf in her New York City condo by her housekeeper at around 10:40 am on Tuesday. Her husband Andy Spade was in the condo, but in another room according to sources. The Spades have been married since 1994 and have a 13 year old daughter, Frances. There was a suicide note left at the scene that was addressed to Spade’s daughter. Spade was the sister in law of actor David Spade. The family released a statement that ‘they are devastated, they loved Kate, and asked for privacy.’

Designer Joe Zee who knew Spade since 1992, said “she built this incredible empire, and she was way ahead of her time.” He said, “It’s hard for me to speculate at this time, she took time off to raise her daughter in 2015 by selling her company. But came back last year with a new line, Frances Valentine and she was becoming a strong force in the fashion world again after being absent for almost ten years. This is all so shocking and heartbreaking.” The designer’s older sister, Reta Brosnahan Saffo told multiple people that her sister had suffered from mental health issues for several years and “her death was not unexpected by me.”

Some family members have disputed Saffo’s claim by saying that the sisters were estranged for more than 10 years. Saffo stands by her claims and says that her sister wanted to seek treatment, but was afraid that the ‘mentally ill’ label would harm her business. There are also claims that Spade and her husband Andy have been having marital problems and were separated at the time of her death. Josh Groban said, “Depression does not discriminate and comes without warning.” Rosie O’Donnell sent her best wishes to David Spade saying, “All my love to you Dave.”
