There is devastating news in the sports world today, the 19 month old daughter of Olympic skier Bode Miller and professional volleyball player wife Morgan has died. The toddler’s body was found in a swimming pool in Orange County, California. Miller’s wife is currently pregnant with the couple’s third child. The couple wed in 2012, Miller has two other children from previous relationships. The Orange County Fire Department confirmed they responded to a drowning late Monday. First responded performed CPR on the toddler but she could not be resuscitated at the scene.
Miller won a total of 6 Olympic medals, one gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze in three Olympic Games. The New Hampshire native retired from skiing last year, at the age of 39. The toddler Emeline Miller, was swimming in the pool of next door neighbors of the Miller family. The couple also have a son three year old Nash Skan, and are expecting their third child in three months. The couple released a statement, they said, “We are beyond devastated. Our baby girl Emmy died yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this.”
The statement continued, “Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved life, and lived it to the fullest everyday. Our family respectfully requests privacy during this painful time.” Miller last competed in 2014 at the Olympic Games in Sochi. He tried to make a comeback the following year in 2015 at the World Championship in Beaver Creek, CO. Injuries during his practice runs kept him out of the competition. The athlete has been touched by tragedy before. His younger brother, Chelone was a competitive snowboarder who competed in the 2010 Winter X Games. He had a traumatic brain injury after a bike accident, he died from his injuries in 2015 at the age of 29.
