Only hours after an explosive interview aired on CBS, embattled singer R. Kelly was arrested. Kelly had an interview with Gayle King of CBS on Wednesday, the singer yelled and shouted, “I’m fighting for my f****n life here.” He raged and ranted during most of the interview and denied the criminal charges against him. King admonished Kelly, “Robert please calm down,” Oprah’s BFF said. King later said, “He’s very sick he needs help, but I was never afraid of him during that interview.” After a child support hearing, the judge ordered Kelly to be returned to the Cook County, jail.
He was taken into custody immediately after the hearing. According to Cook County Sheriff’s office, Sophia Ansari, Kelly will remain behind bars until he pays the $161,000 that he owes for back child support. Kelly knew about the hearing weeks ahead of time, and was prepared to offer between $50,000 and $60,0000 as a partial payment for the child support. According to Kelly’s publicist Daryl Johnson, the judge would not allow a partial payment. Johnson said due to Kelly’s legal problems he hasn’t been able to work and he doesn’t have the full amount now.
According to CNN Kelly has a seperate child support issue regarding his ex wife Andrea Kelly. Court documents show that the singer owes his former wife over $169,000 in back child support. He did not go to the hearing involving his ex wife Andrea. Even if he comes up with the $161,000 he still has to pay Andrea’s back child support to be able to get out of jail. A spokesperson for Mrs. Kelly, David France said that Kelly had until 5 pm on Tuesday to make the payment, and he didn’t, nor did he call to try to make any type of arrangements. Kelly is due back in court March 21st, for the 10 counts of sexual assault charges that if convicted, could put him behind bars for the rest of his life.
