Rapper 21 Savage Says He Would Rather Be Broke Than Get Deported

British born rapper 21 Savage is speaking out about his fears of getting deported. In a brand new interview the rapper talked about his February 12th arrest by the US Immigration and Custom Enforcement. Savage is currently out on bail said, “It really wasn’t jail, it was the possibility of not being allowed to live in this country.” The rapper explained that he had been ‘living in this country most of his life.’ The rapper who lives in Atlanta, said he loves his house, and his work and the life he has created.

Savage whose real name is, Sheyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was born in London, and moved to Atlanta with his mother when he was 7. The 26 year old, says he’s been living in the US for 20 years, and he considers it his home. His father and twin sisters still live in London, most of his family lives in England. The two time Grammy nominee was unable to attend this year’s show, because he was incarcerated. Savage said he would ‘in a second give away all of his money in order to be able to stay in this country.


He explained “That’s the most important thing if you tell me, I’ll give you 20 million to go stay in some place you really don’t know. I’d rather be broke, I’ll sit in jail and fight to live where I’ve been living my whole life.” ICE issued a statement at the time of Savage’s arrest, “Mr Abraham-Joseph initially entered this country illegally in July 2005. ICE went on to explain that Savage’s visa expired and he became unlawfully living in the US in 2006. While here illegally he has been convicted of a felony for drug charges in 2014. Savage said growing up in the US has made ‘him strong, made me a fighter.’ The singer’s fate will be decided at a deportation hearing in March.
