Robert De Niro & Wife Split After 20 Years Of Marriage

Iconic actor Robert De Niro and his wife former model and actress Grace Hightower have decided to divorce after 20 years of marriage. The couple have been living separately for several months, according to sources. The two time Oscar winner, and Hightower dated for over 10 years before tying the knot in 1997. The estranged couple have a 20 year old son Elliot and a 6 year old daughter Helen Grace. The marriage according to sources has been very tumultuous in the more than two decades they have been married.

Only two years after marrying in 1999 De Niro filed for divorce, and the two engaged in a nasty custody battle over their son Elliot. Eventually De Niro dropped his divorce petition, and the couple reconciled. In 2004 the couple decided to renew their vows, and did so in front of their famous friends that included director Martin Scorsese, Ben Stiller, Meryl Streep, Tom Brokow and several others. De Niro joked in an interview after the ceremony, that ‘I wanted to make it stick this time.’The couple have not been seen out publicly together since June. De Niro has been attending many events alone in the last few months.

Hightower is De Niro’s second wife, his first wife was actress Diahnne Abbott who he married in 1976. They a son Raphael who works as a Realtor in NYC. De Niro adopted Abbott’s daughter Drena DeNiro who she had with a previous boyfriend. The couple divorced in 1988m but have remained close friends.
De Niro has twin sons Aaron and Julian De Niro who were delivered via a surrogate mother in 1995, their mother is model Toukie Smith who De Niro had a long time relationship with. De Niro said that his six children are ‘more important than any movie he ever made, his children he said “are my life.”
