Elton John has served as a creative consultant on the film, and dropped in to the set to watch filming often. Egerton said John watching the filming was ‘extremely nerve racking. I’ve always been such a big fan of his, and I just wanted to get his story right.” The film is set to hit theaters on May 31st is not without it’s controversy. Gay activists have voiced concerns with the casing of Egerton a straight man playing the openly gay singer. Egerton says, “that’s very unfair. Actors that are accomplished can play any role, and play a role against type, in my mind it’s reversed discrimination.”

The film also has several candid scenes dealing with gay sex. The film makers had to cut several scenes to even procure the ‘R’ rating, it was teetering on an X rating through most of the filming. Egerton also said, ‘he didn’t want to live in a world where gay actors nnly play gay people, that would be very sad.”The actor said he knew from the time he was a young child that he wanted to be an actor. He said he doesn’t like to physio analyze it all, but he hopes John is prod of them film, everyone worked very hard on it. I think that people will really appreciate the film and Elton’s story.”
