Rose McGowan’s Former Manager Commits Suicide Family Blames Actress & Harvey Weinstein

The former manager of actress Rose McGowan committed suicide on Wednesday. Her family claims the reason for the manager’s actions is the fault of Rose McGowan and Harvey Weinstein. McGowan’s former manager Jill Messick, was 50 years old at the time of her death. She represented the ‘Charmed’ actress in January 1997. During the time period Messick represented her, was at the
Sundance Film Festival’, when McGowan claims Weinstein first raped her. After McGowan says she was raped by Weinstein, Messick was hired by Miramax.

McGowan wrote in her ‘Brave’ book that “Jill told me that this man wielded an incredible amount of power. I could sense it by the by the way she was breathlessly talking about him.” McGowan said that after the ‘attack’ her manager offered her no help in the aftermath. McGowan wrote of that period, “During the immediate period afterward I couldn’t stop crying. One of my calls was to my manager. It was so fu***d up, she counseled me, to see it as something that would help my career in the long run. I felt like I was in a fun house and all the mirrors were reflecting my horrors.”

Messick’s family released a lengthy statement, disputing many of McGowan’s claims about Messick. The family claims that Messick held her tongue as her reputation and decades of hard work started to erode after McGowan’s constant attacks in her book and in her media appearances. The family claims that at the time of ‘Sundance Film Festival’, Messick’s job was to set up a meeting between Weinstein and her new client McGowan. Messick told her family that McGowan willingly disrobed and got into a hot tube with Weinstein. Messick claimed that when McGowan recounted what happened in the hot tube, she never once said the word ‘rape’.
