Rosie O’Donnell Says That Her Friend The Late Whitney Houston Was Gay

Actress and comedienne Rosie O’Donnell was on ‘Watch What Happens Live’ with Andy Cohen yesterday. On the show Cohen brought up an interview O’Donnell gave to ‘The New York Times’. Cohen said in the article you were quoted as saying” many of the people behind the scenes with Whitney Houston knew that she was gay.” Cohen said that O’Donnell brought up a relationship that the late singer was having with Robyn Crawford. Many people at the time of Houston’s life were told that Crawford was an old friend and was Houston’s assistant.

Cohen asked O’Donnell if she knew Crawford and Houston. O’Donnell said, “I didn’t know them as a couple per se, but I knew that they were together. I’m friends with very athletic older lesbian women who were in the WNBA. That’s the sort of the group all of these basketball playing women all hung out with. I knew that and I knew for a very long time. Everyone sort of knew it, it was no secret.” O’Donnell went on to say “I thought it was very surprising that Clive Davis said that he never discussed with her being gay. I just thought I don’t believe that for one minute.”

O’Donnell who came out as a lesbian publicly in 2002 was a close friend of Houston.  During the 90’s Houston appeared frequently on O’Donnell’s highly successful talk show ‘Rosie’. On a 1997 appearance on the ‘Rosie Show’, Houston talked about her family life. She mentioned her husband Bobby Brown and their daughter Bobby Kristina, who was four at the time. Houston said she took her daughter out shopping in Florida where the family was living at the time. Houston died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11, 2012 at the age of 48. Her daughter Bobby Kristina died about three years later on July 26, 2015 at age 22.
