Shannen Doherty Makes First Public Appearance Since Completing Cancer Treatments

Actress Shannen Doherty, 45, made an appearance on a red carpet in Los Angeles on Saturday. Doherty said “I feel great”, as she walked the red carpet for’ Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation’ charity event which Doherty co-hosted. Doherty held hands with her husband of five years Kurt Iswarienko. The ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ alum, has completed chemotherapy, radiation and a radical mastectomy for the treatment of breast cancer.

The actress went public with her health scare in 2015, she shared all of her treatments and updates with her fans on social media. Doherty claims that the support of her mother, husband and all of her fans has seen her through some of the lowest points of her life. At the Saturday event which was the first charity event for the animal organization, Doherty said she felt honored to host the event, she said after what she’s been through “It’s very important to give back, and do my part.”  Doherty was a three pack a day smoker in the 90’s and up until she was diagnosed in late 2014. She has said, if she can change one thing, one decision, it would be “to have never been a smoker.”

Doherty calls herself a “cancer slayer” and said she feels blessed every day to be alive and happy and healthy. She realizes that the fight will never be over. Doherty said, once you are diagnosed with the disease, you have to keep fighting, or it can come back, she said cleaner living and a good positive attitude is mandatory when dealing with a deadly disease. Her former Beverly Hills 90210 co-stars have reached out to her, to send their words of well wishes. Jenny Garth who played ‘Kelly Taylor’ said “Shannen is a real fighter, she’s very brave and I admire her.”
