Singer Josh Groban is counting his lucky stars today, but he remains quite shaken. Groban,36, and his dog were only a half block away from was the World Trade Center in New York City. A 29 year old man in a rented ‘Home Depot’ truck started ramming into pedestrians and bicyclists, and eventually slammed into a school bus. A man ran from the truck, yelling in Arabic ‘God is Great’, and brandishing a pellet and a paint gun. A NYC police officer assigned to the area confronted the man and shot him in the stomach. The incident left eight people dead and at least a dozen more injured.
Groban being nearby immediately took to his social media accounts to recall the terrifying incident. The singer said, “Oh my god, I just heard gun shots with my dog. Downtown F***. I hope everyone is ok. Was a half block from me, I didn’t see but heard 18 to 19 quick rounds fired off. Be safe with your kids out there.” He also tweeted “I’m shaking, that’s the corner I was supposed to have my coffee on, but my dog pulled me a half block away 10 minutes before shooting.” Groban also expressed his condolences to the victims and their families. He said “Sirens and Trick or Treaters out everywhere.
One person is in custody, the suspect was undergoing emergency surgery. Late reports indicate the suspect rented the truck earlier in the day in New Jersey. A motive at this point is unclear, however the Governor of New York and the mayor of New York City have called today’s incident a ‘terror attack’. Groban later clarified on Twitter that the shots he heard came from the police not from the suspect. He also was happy to learn that the annual New York City Halloween Parade was going to go forward as planned.
