Former Spice girl, ‘Scary Spice, Melanie Brown was ordered by a Los Angeles judge to pay estranged husband 40 K a month in spousal support. The singer, model and spokesperson who has a net work of 33 million dollars was ordered to pay a lump sum of 140,000 for Stephen Belafonte’s legal fees. The monthly payments are temporary until the final outcome of the former couple’s divorce settlement is determined by the court. Today’s judgment came as a result of Belafonte’s emergency court filing for support. He claimed he did not have enough money for food, housing, or his cell phone bill.
Brown was the one that filed for divorce last year after 10 years of marriage. In her filing she claimed, Belafonte had an affair with the couple’s nanny, and verbally and physically abused her. The couple have a five year old daughter, Madison. Brown has two children from previous relationships, one of them Angel Murphy,10, the daughter of Brown and comic Eddie Murphy. The separation and pending divorce proceedings have been extremely volatile. In April Brown was granted a restraining order against Belafonte, after Brown said she feared for her safety.
Brown’s estranged husband is a film producer, the couple met in Vegas in 2007 and married after only dating a few weeks. Brown is seeking primary legal custody of her daughter Madison Belafonte, she claims her husband is violent and can’t be trusted to be alone with their daughter. She further has accused him of threatening to kill her, and she has said in court filings she fears for the welfare of her daughter. The couple will next meet in court in late August, and their divorce is expected to be finalized in September.
