Steph Curry & Viola Davis Are Teaming Up To Produce A New Documentary

An unlikely paring of NBA star Steph Curry and producer Viola Davis have cemented a deal to produce a documentary about the Charleston Church shooting. The 2015 crime was committed by white supremacist Dylan Roof. The Emanuel African Methodist
Episcopal church was savaged by Roof’s gunfire taking the lives of nine African American church members. The film will simply be titled ‘Emanuel’, Curry and Davis have signed as executive producers of the documentary. They will be working in concert with Julius Tennon’s JUVEE Productions.

The documentary will feature interviews with the family members of the victims, survivors of the shooting. It will also tackle the rebuilding of the lives of those that survived, and the family members’ journey to keep the memory alive of those that died in the attack. Davis said, “This is going to be a powerful film from the vantage points of those that were there that day, and focus on justice and faith, love and hate and the healing power of forgiveness.” Curry has been using his high profile platform to endorse and create project off the basketball court.

He started a production company last year called ‘Unanimous Media’, he has said he’s proud of the projects he has taken on for their ‘deep messages’. He said, “Emanuel is a powerful film and we’re honored to come on board as executive producers.” The father and husband went on,” The documentary highlights how a horrible tragedy can bring a community together, and will spread a powerful message of forgiveness. Stories like this are the reason I created ‘Unanimous Media’ and entered the entertainment space. I hope the film inspires others like it does me.” Dylan Roof was sentenced to life without the possible of parole in April of 2017. The film was directed by Brian Lvie and is set to debut at DOC NYC at the end of November.
