Taylor Swift Receives Mixed Reactions After She Endorses Political Candidates

Singer Taylor Swift, has never commented on her political views, but that changed over the weekend. The superstar pop singer encouraged her 100 million plus followers to register to vote, and expressed the importance in doing so. Swift said she will be voting in her home state of Tennessee this November 6th, and due to the current political climate she decided to let her fans know who she will be voting for. “The singer said, “I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world I feel differently about it now.”

The singer continued,”I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for the dignity of ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, race, or who they love. The GOP candidate for the Tennessee senate race is Marsha Blackburn. Swift said that in the past, she has always tried to support putting more women in public office. However in this case, she says she cannot endorse or vote for Blackburn.
Swift went on of Blackburn, “her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me.” Some or reasons she sited was her record of voting against gay marriage and the rights and protections of domestic violence victims.

She now publicly backs and supports the Democratic candidate Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives. Swift said that those two candidates are more in line with her own, ‘Tenseness values.’ Fans started reacting immediately, some calling for her to stick to her music, and not worry about politics. Many women applauded Swift for taking a public stance, Debra Messing and other celebrities applauded her for taking a stance against politicians that spread hate. Some parents of fans, slammed the singer saying their children will not be attending any more Taylor Swift concerts and will not be buying her music.
