Tonya Harding Will Join New All Athletes Cast Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’

There is a new twist for the upcoming Season 26 of ‘Dancing With The Stars’, which will start airing at the end of April. The long time ABC hit, will formally role out the entire cast of only athletes on April 13th on ‘Good Morning America.’ However sources connected to the show, have revealed that figure skater Tonya Harding will be a cast member of the upcoming season. Harding’s career and life has generated new interest, after a movie about her life ‘I Tonya’ hit theaters in 2017.

A few other athletes who will be rounding out the cast are said to be men’s figure skater Adam Rippon and Olympic snowboarder Jamie Anderson. Harding’s arch rival of the past, skater Nancy Kerrigan competed on ‘DWTS’ during Season 24, she was eliminated before the final five. She was the first skater that didn’t finish in the top five of the show. Kerrigan at the time said she was very disappointed that she didn’t finish in the top five. Harding is happy for the chance at some sort of comeback as far as some public acceptance.

Harding’s fall from grace started shortly before the 1994 winter Olympics. Harding’s husband and bodyguard were implicated in a botched attempt to stop Kerrigan from competing in the Olympics by hiring a hit man to hit her in one of her knees after a practice at a skating rink in Detroit, Michigan in 1994. Both women competed in the games in Norway, with Harding finishing in 8th place and Kerrigan winning the Silver Medal. As a punishment for her part in the attack on Kerrigan, Harding was barred from ever competing in skating competitions. Her climb to find credibility again has been a daunting task. The mother of one child, remains hopeful that competing on ‘DWTS’ will help her win favor with the general public.
